Sibir Airlines has not yet received the report from the Interstate Aviation Committee (IAC). The statement published on the IAC’s website yesterday cannot be called clear and exhaustive. For example, the statement by the committee’s representatives does not cover the issues connected to the poor weather conditions and the state of the runway when the aircraft was landing. Nor does the IAC statement have a word to say about the fact that the immediate cause of the death of the crew and most of the passengers was the concrete barrier and the storage buildings that were practically next to the runway.
The Airbus 319 has replaced the Tu-154 on S7’s routes between Novosibirsk and Saint Petersburg, Beijing, Baku, Yerevan and Tashkent. Previously, S7’s only service from Novosibirsk using an A319 was to Moscow. Now, one of the 6 A319s in S7’s fleet will be based at Tolmachevo Airport, in order to perform flights from Novosibirsk. In future, S7 plans to expand the geographical scope of its flights from Novosibirsk with this make of aircraft.
