S7 Airlines introduces a new service: self-service baggage check-in and drop-off


S7 Airlines, a member of the oneworld® global aviation alliance, offers its passengers the chance to check in and drop off their baggage in Domodedovo airport themselves. The service is available to passengers who have already registered for their flight on-line, through the airline’s web site or mobile app.

The self-service baggage check-in kiosks are a joint project between S7 Airlines and Domodedovo airport. The technology used in the kiosks has been developed by SITA. The kiosks are in the S7 check-in zone, in the passenger terminal of Domodedovo airport To use this service, you need to scan your boarding pass at the kiosk, which will print out a baggage label which you should attach to the suitcase in accordance with the instructions. The passenger keeps one copy of the label in order to check the two numbers’ match when reclaiming the baggage.

Passengers of S7 Airlines also now have the option to check in their personal baggage when checking in on line through the airline’s site. In that case the baggage label is sent by e-mail. The passenger should print it out, fold it in accordance with the instructions, and bring it to the airport with them. Both the boarding pass and the baggage label should be scanned at the self-service baggage check-in kiosk. Passengers can get a reusable label envelope from S7 Airlines staff: this will be useful for future flights.

Once the baggage drop-off has been successfully processed a message confirming this fact, together with the number of the departure gate, is displayed on the screen of the kiosk.

The opportunity to check in and drop off their baggage themselves can significantly cut the amount of time passengers spend in the airport. Passengers can check themselves and their own baggage in for the flight, and pay for additional services from home or work: all they need to do at the airport is to have their boarding pass printed out and drop off their suitcase at the self-service baggage check-in kiosk. That takes just a few minutes. Then they can go straight through to customs and passport control,” says Svetlana Kulyukina, Passenger Experience Department Director at S7 Group.

We are introducing paper-free and smart technologies to make sure passengers are in full control of their time at the airport. Passengers on S7 Airlines’ internal, international and transfer flights can use the self-service baggage check-in kiosks, as long as their baggage complies with the rules on weight and dimensions. The technology also allows S7 Priority program members with certain status levels to register extra baggage spaces and make advance payment for excess baggage.

By entering in their baggage label number, passengers can use the S7 mobile app to monitor the progress of their baggage in its preparation for flight: for example, they can see whether it has successfully passed through pre-flight security and whether it is ready to be loaded on board the plane.
