Passeig de Born

Author: Taniamaria Dela O Barcelona, Spain

This is where a weekend fair called After Tea Market takes place once a month in one of old hotels on La Rambla. At 12 am young designers and vintage lovers place and hang for sale decorations and accessories, silk summer dresses, cotton shirts with graphic prints and antiques. 250 square meters room is instantly filled with local fashionistas, students of the nearby Istituto Europeo di Design, truant skaters, owners of small shops from bohemian Passeig de Born district and people from the street who are, for the record, a minority here. To enter one has to pay a symbolic fee of €1. Along with the clothes they sell bakery (cupcakes with various sprinkles and icing, hand-made muffins with nuts and candied fruits) as well as coffee and tea. After 5 pm the place becomes agitated. An invited DJ, sipping sneaked-in beer, quickly gets in the right mood and starts playing energetic dance music. However, at 10 pm the hotel staff asks everyone to leave, and it’s not their fault: they are in residential area and perpetrators of Noise Control Acts face considerable fines.
