S7 Airlines wins awards for best mobile app

S7 Airlines, a member of the oneworld® global aviation alliance, has been named the winner for Russia in the MasterCard Mobile Shopping Application Awards. The S7 iPhone app was recognised as the best mobile shopping app available in Russia.

MasterCard held the competition in nine countries: Hungary, Poland, Russia, Romania, Slovakia, Slovenia, Turkey, Croatia and the Czech Republic. Winners were chosen by an independent jury of technology experts. The apps were evaluated on their design and functionality, and on the experience the members of the jury had with them.

 “S7 Airlines was the first Russian airline to develop an iPhone application. We strive to make the process of online ticket purchase from any city of our route network as simple, quick and convenient as possible. We would like to thank MasterCard and the members of the jury for such high appreciation of our work,” said Dmitry Chuyko, Director for E-Commerce of S7 Airlines.

The S7 Airlines iPhone app allows passengers to purchase tickets for any S7 Airlines flight, and to check-in, choose a convenient cabin seat, request a boarding pass via email, or download a mobile boarding pass and add it to their Passbook app. The app also allows the purchase of Aeroexpress tickets, for a comfortable train transfer to and from Moscow airports.

 “The rapidly growing European markets set the pace in innovations and implementation of new technology. MasterCard is interested in mobile phones as the new generation of payment means. I am happy that in 2013 the competition was held in the region demonstrating a variability of the most progressive innovations, which make a shopping experience an interesting and simple everyday process,” noted Bella Stavchansky, Division President for MasterCard's High Growth European Markets Region.

A total of 110 nominated apps were assessed in the competition. Each winner was awarded a memorable prize and a certificate, as well as the right to use the title of ‘MasterCard Mobile Application Awards’ and the competition logo for a 12-month period.
