Siberia Airlines to become the first customer for the Sukhoi Russian Regional Jet

According to the agreement signed by Sukhoi Civil Aircraft and Siberia Airlines, the airline will acquire 50 RRJ 95 aircraft in basic configuration. Delivery of the aircraft will start in 2007.
All aircraft will be fitted with the SM146 engine, jointly designed by Snecma (France) and NPO Saturn (Russia). Snecma and Saturn are not only the engine providers for the whole RRJ aircraft family, but also the risk-sharing partners of the RRJ programme.
Aircraft from the RRJ family are fully compliant with modern requirements on reliability, safety and operational efficiency. The RRJ family is designed to become the base for the growth and development of domestic and international route networks operated by Russian carriers.
"We are happy that it is precisely Siberia Airlines - the fastest growing airline in Russia - who became our first customer. This will allow us to fully launch the programme of the new family of Russian regional aircraft in the near future. The scale and the timing of the order underpin the accuracy of Sukhoi's strategy of entering the market of short-haul aircrafts" - commented the head of Sukhoi Mikhail Pogosyan.
Editor's note:
In 2003 Siberia Airlines held the first place among Russian carriers in the volume of domestic air traffic and the second in overall traffic volume. Last year the company carried 3.4 million passengers. Siberia Airlines fleet consists of 52 aircraft of the following type: 12 Il-86's, 38 Tu-154's, 2 Tu-204's. This June Siberia Airlines began operating Airbus A310 aircraft.
In February 2004 Siberia Airlines became the winner of the Air Transport World magazine award in the Market Leadership nomination. Also Siberia is the first Russian airline to win the Flight International Aerospace Awards in the Corporate Strategy nomination.
