What items are not allowed in carry-on luggage?

Here’s what is better to check in as baggage or leave at home:

  • Sharp objects. Knives and scissors, corkscrews, and knitting needles must go in checked baggage. Metal nail files are better replaced with alternatives or checked in together with tweezers and nail clippers. A razor handle must also be checked. Hypodermic needles and syringes are only permitted if you have a doctor’s certificate.
  • Alcohol not purchased in Duty Free cannot be carried into the aircraft cabin, but you may check it in as baggage.
  • Gasoline lighters such as Zippo and matches (except safety matches) are prohibited in both carry-on and checked baggage. Cigarettes may be carried in the cabin, but smoking on board is not permitted.
  • Mercury-containing devices (e.g., thermometers and barometers) are not allowed in carry-on, but may be placed in checked baggage. If you need them during the flight, use electronic alternatives.
  • Pepper spray must be left at home.
  • Items and substances from the prohibited list are also not allowed.

You also cannot take into carry-on baggage items that exceed the weight and size limits. For example, a beach umbrella. The limits for economy class are up to 10 kg and no larger than 55×40×23 cm (length × width × height). For business class — up to 15 kg and no larger than 55×40×23 cm (length × width × height).

What about liquids?

They may be carried in containers of up to 100 ml each. In total — up to 1 liter per passenger.

What about souvenirs?

If you want to take special items as souvenirs (for example, exotic flowers or fruits), check whether their transportation is prohibited by the customs regulations of the departure and arrival countries. Some countries, such as South Korea or European countries, impose their own restrictions.

It’s possible we didn’t mention the item you’re interested in here, so feel free to ask in the chat.
